THE FIRST AND ONLY EXHIBITION OF ITS KIND
Original Buck Rogers in the 25th Century Props and Costumes:
From The Collection of Ronald M. Vastola
Borrowed from the collection of Ronald M. Vastola, Pennsylvania; this exhibition will feature a unique sampling of authentic props and costumes from the production of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, an American science fiction-adventure film that was released theatrically on March 30, 1979, followed by a prime-time NBC television series that ran for two seasons, from 1979-1981.
The film and series, produced and developed by Universal Studios and Glen A. Larson, were based on the Buck Rogers character that appeared in newspaper comic strips, from 1929-1967, a 1932-1947 radio show, a 1939 movie serial, and a 1950-1951 ABC television series.
The popularity of the 1979-1981 television series led to the revival of numerous comic books and paperback novels, toys and models, games, and the Buck Rogers newspaper comic strip, re-titled Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (from 1980-1983).
Today, over 80 years later, Buck Rogers continues to be an important part of American pop culture, and is credited with bringing into popular media the concept of space exploration. This exhibit will allow viewers to compare the technology of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century to real-world aerospace science and technology.
